How to Make Something Out of Nothing

Across the nation, cities are looking at aging highways and imagining something new: open spaces that reconnect, rather than divide, neighborhoods.

San Diego Commons, a nonprofit led by local architects and urban planners, is proposing freeway lids over Interstate 5 to reconnect central neighborhoods that were split apart when the interstate was built.
